Mellanox Technologies, Ltd. (NASDAQ: MLNX), a leading supplier of high-performance, end-to-end smart interconnect solutions for data center servers and storage systems, today announced that its 200 Gigabit HDR InfiniBand solutions were selected to accelerate a multi-phase supercomputer system by CSC – the Finnish IT Center for Science. The new supercomputers, set to be deployed in 2019 and 2020, will serve the Finnish researchers in universities and research institutes, enhancing climate, renewable energy, astrophysics, nanomaterials and bioscience, among a wide range of exploration activities. The Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI) will have their own separate partition for diverse simulation tasks ranging from ocean fluxes to atmospheric modeling and space physics.
CSC selected the HDR InfiniBand interconnect solution for its fast data throughout, extremely low latency, smart In-Network Computing acceleration engines, and enhanced Dragonfly network topology. These advantages will provide CSC and FMI users with world-leading HPC and AI application performance, scalability and efficiency.
"The multi-phase, multi-year supercomputing program will enable our researchers and scientists to leverage the most efficient HPC and AI platforms to enhance their discoveries and competitiveness for years to come," said Pekka Lehtovuori, Director of services for research at CSC. "By utilizing HDR InfiniBand In-Network Computing acceleration engines, and the innovative Dragonfly network topology design, we will provide our users with a world-leading performance and scalability system and optimize our total cost of ownership."
200 Gigabit HDR InfiniBand In-Network Computing acceleration engines provide leading performance, scalability, efficiency and resiliency for HPC and AI applications. For example, Mellanox Scalable Hierarchical Aggregation and Reduction Protocol (SHARP)™ technology enables the execution of data algorithms on the data as it traverses within the network, and Mellanox SHIELD™ technology enables self-healing interconnect capabilities. These advantages, together with its high data throughput and extremely low latency, make InfiniBand the preferred interconnect choice for next-generation supercomputing platforms.
"We are excited to collaborate with Atos, the system provider, and CSC to enhance research and explorations in Finland," said Gilad Shainer, vice president of marketing at Mellanox Technologies. "HDR InfiniBand will provide CSC users with the highest productivity and overall return on investment."
"As the leading supercomputer manufacturer in Europe, we are delighted to work with Mellanox and CSC to supply our latest BullSequana XH2000 supercomputer, giving Finnish researchers an enhanced computing capacity for new innovation breakthroughs," said Agnès Boudot, Group vice president, Head of HPC at Atos.
